Katrin S. (25)
came in with severe weakness and motor impairment in her left hand, which had been present for two days and was causing her great anxiety.
She was familiar with the 5BN, but did not have any deeper knowledge of it.
The reason was easy to find: her 2 1/2-year-old child had fallen while she was lifting him up a week ago. Nothing had happened to the child, but she blamed herself severely (“...I can't hold my child!”).
The connections were easily explained. The sudden weakness that had lasted for two days indicated an (unconscious) resolution and the beginning of the pclA phase.
I encouraged her to consciously use her hand normally again, to accept the limitations with the certainty that they were necessary now but would soon disappear. I was also able to give her a few positive affirmations regarding her self-esteem.
Just a few days later, I received the news that her strength had almost completely returned.
